CABLE WAS FORCED TO SHOOT HIS OWN SON — THEN HIS SON CAME BACK AS TOLLIVER AND GENESIS!
The Featured Fact

Cable shot his own son to save someone else. In the Askani future, Cable — Nathan Summers — raised his son Tyler Dayspring with his wife Aliya (Jenskot) in the Clan Chosen, fighting Apocalypse's New Canaanite regime. The villain Stryfe — Cable's own clone — abducted the teenage Tyler and had him mentally corrupted. Tyler resurfaced as one of Stryfe's soldiers, holding Cable's friend Dawnsilk hostage through a neural link. With no other way to free her, Cable shot Tyler.

Tyler survived — and never forgave his father. He time-travelled to the present day and reinvented himself in secret as Mr. Tolliver, a masked arms dealer (first seen in X-Force #5, 1992). From the shadows Tolliver hired Cable's old mercenary team, the Six Pack, and set them against Stryfe — a mission that shattered the team and turned most of them against Cable, exactly the revenge Tyler wanted.

Tyler returned again as Genesis (debuting in Cable #19, 1995), declaring himself Apocalypse's heir. Leading the Dark Riders, he tried to restore Wolverine's adamantium and erase his mind to make him a Horseman — the experiment drove Wolverine feral, and Wolverine killed him. Some accounts even question Tyler's parentage, suggesting Stryfe himself may have been his biological father — Marvel has never definitively settled it.

Why It's Obscure

Everyone knows Cable's clone Stryfe. Almost nobody remembers Cable had a son — let alone that the son became two separate mystery villains, Tolliver and Genesis.

1991
A son in a flashback — Tyler first appears in a flashback in X-Force #1 (1991), by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, long before readers understood who Tolliver was.
THE SHOT
A father pulls the trigger. Brainwashed by Stryfe and linked to the hostage Dawnsilk, Tyler left Cable one choice — shoot his son or lose his friend.
TOLLIVER
The mystery man was family. For years 'Mr. Tolliver' was an unseen, masked arms dealer driving X-Force plots. The reveal that he was Cable's own son rewired every one of those stories.
GENESIS
Heir to the wrong throne. As Genesis, Tyler tried to claim Apocalypse's legacy instead of Cable's — and died at the claws of the Horseman he tried to create.
