The soldier from the future once added a head of state to his service record. In the Cable & Deadpool run, the war-torn European nation of Rumekistan had fallen under the terrorist Flag-Smasher and his organisation ULTIMATUM, who preached a world stripped of borders, languages and nations. Cable arrived with a plan that treated that slogan as a negotiating position rather than a threat.
When Flag-Smasher was shot during the transfer of power — by Domino, not by the Deadpool shot everyone assumed had gone wrong — the resistance leader Petrovic took the stage in the capital, Barjnov, and introduced the country's saviour. In Cable & Deadpool #29 (2006), Nathan Summers was named the new President of Rumekistan in front of the crowd, the resistance and ULTIMATUM's own soldiers.
His first presidential act was an invitation delivered at gunpoint range: he told ULTIMATUM's troops to lay down their weapons, promised nobody would be harmed, and offered them the borderless world they claimed to want, built by rebuilding one small country first. The soldiers lowered their guns. Cable then set about the unglamorous work — restoring power lines, arranging cargo freighters of supplies — governing a nation he intended to turn into proof that his future did not have to happen.
Why It's Obscure
Providence was an island he built; Rumekistan was a country that handed him the keys at a rally, while an assassin watched through a rifle scope and chose not to fire.
