The Juggernaut did not just fight the X-Men — for a time, he was one of them. The turn started in Uncanny X-Men #410–412 (2002), when Cain Marko came to the X-Men for help against his old partner Black Tom Cassidy, whose powers were mutating out of control. Tom knocked Cain into the sea at Cassidy Keep — and the man nothing can stop started to drown.
He was saved by a 10-year-old: Samuel Paré, called Squidboy, a young mutant with scales, gills and webbed hands on his way to enroll at Xavier's school. Sammy dove in and pulled Juggernaut out. Cain — abused as a child by his own father — became a surrogate father to the bullied kid, stayed on at the Institute, and was numbered among the X-Men despite not being a mutant at all.
It ended in tragedy. Cain secretly infiltrated the new Brotherhood as a double agent but never told Sammy the plan. In X-Men #162 (2004), Sammy stumbled on the Brotherhood, denounced his friend — and Black Tom killed him. The reformation that a child's kindness built was buried with the child.
Why It's Obscure
Everybody knows Juggernaut as an X-Men villain. Almost nobody remembers he lived at Xavier's school as a hero — because a 10-year-old fish kid refused to let him drown.
