WANDA IS EARTH-616'S NEXUS BEING — AND HER EVIL DOUBLE HUNTED EVERY OTHER ONE!
The Featured Fact

Wanda Maximoff carries a designation almost no summary of her ever prints: she is the Nexus Being of Earth-616, the single living focal point of her entire reality's mystical energy. One such being exists in each dimension, and the Time Keepers watch them all, because a Nexus Being can tilt the future of a universe just by living in it. In Scarlet Witch #1–#4 (1994), by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning and John Higgins, that cosmic job title very nearly got Wanda eaten.

The threat was Lore, a twisted counterpart of Wanda from a ruined reality who had been travelling from dimension to dimension murdering their Nexus Beings and feeding on what they were. Lore freed Master Pandemonium from Mephisto's realm to soften Wanda up, and twisted members of the West Coast Avengers into monstrous Iron Golems to finish the job. Every nightmare Wanda had suffered about a malevolent woman wearing her own face turned out to be a scouting report.

Fighting beside her mentor Agatha Harkness, Wanda forced Lore into solid physical form and refused the obvious ending. Instead of simply destroying her double, she freed the trapped spirits of the Nexus Beings Lore had already consumed and granted them final peace, draining the hunter of her stolen strength. The status also quietly explains a pattern across Wanda's life: time-manipulators like Immortus kept interfering with her choices precisely because steering the Nexus Being meant steering the timeline itself.

Why It's Obscure

Plenty of villains have wanted Wanda's power. Only one wanted her job — the cosmic one reality itself had assigned her.

1994
Scarlet Witch #1 — Wanda dreams of a malevolent entity wearing her face devastating alien worlds, and Agatha Harkness connects the visions to Wanda's nature as a living mystic nexus.
1994
Scarlet Witch #2–#3 — Master Pandemonium attacks as Lore's agent while West Coast Avengers are ensorcelled into Iron Golems and turned on their own leader.
1994
Scarlet Witch #4 — Lore steps out of the dark as Wanda's mirror image, and the slain Nexus Beings she carries are set free rather than spent as fuel.
Nexus
One per reality — Nexus Beings are monitored by the Time Keepers as anchors of their timelines, which is why Wanda's romances, children and breakdowns kept attracting Immortus and his masters.
