Thanos once handed his romantic rival the cruellest gift in the universe: a life that cannot end. Jealous that Death herself favoured Deadpool, the Mad Titan arranged through his agent T-Ray for the mercenary to be brought back from death and bound by a curse of immortality, retold across the Deadpool series of the late 1990s.
The logic was pure possessiveness dressed up as strategy. Wade Wilson longed to die so he could finally be with Death, so Thanos simply removed death from the menu — no reunion, no release, no last page.
Deadpool already healed from almost anything thanks to his Weapon X–derived healing factor, which makes the curse easy to miss. Yet writers kept returning to it because it reframes every resurrection: part of Wade’s survival is not biology at all, but a Titan’s spite with no expiration date.
Why It's Obscure
