NICK FURY KILLED UATU — AND WAS CURSED TO BECOME HIS REPLACEMENT, THE UNSEEN!
The Featured Fact

The man who murdered the Watcher inherited his job as punishment. In Original Sin (2014), by Jason Aaron and Mike Deodato, Nick Fury confesses that he shot Uatu on the Moon and took his eyes, hunting for the secrets they held about a threat to Earth.

Fury’s defense was a lifetime of dirty work: for decades he had secretly served as Earth’s Man on the Wall, personally executing alien invaders, monsters and cosmic threats before any hero ever heard their names. Killing Uatu, in his telling, was one more ugly shift on that wall.

The sentence fit the crime with cosmic precision. Fury was transformed into the Unseen — chained to the Moon in Uatu’s place, able to watch everything and intervene in nothing, carrying one of the Watcher’s eyes as a permanent reminder of why he was there.

Why It's Obscure

Uatu broke his oath hundreds of times to help people; his killer got the same post with the opposite rule — watch forever, help never.

2014
The confession. Original Sin #5–7 peels back Fury’s double life, from the Man on the Wall killings to the shot that ended Uatu. The event’s whodunit ended with the detective arresting himself.
THE EYES
The motive. Fury harvested Uatu’s eyes because a Watcher’s gaze stores everything it has witnessed. He wanted an archive; he became a monument instead.
THE UNSEEN
The sentence. Chained where Uatu once stood, Fury inherited the vigil but not the mercy — observation without intervention, forever. Uatu chose to break that rule; Fury is forbidden to.
